1. Japanese Bombing in Colombo
- In 1942 Japanese suicide bombers attacked the British base of Singapore
- PM Mr. Winston Churchill admit that it was the greatest setback on British history
- Sri Lanka selected to replace the south Asian forces base camp
- British navel officer Sir Geoffrey Layton appointed as a commander in charge in Sri Lanka in March 1942
- He select the Peradeniya botanic garden as his headquarters keeping the base camp in Trincomalee
- Japanese bombers attacked Colombo on 05th April and then Trincomalee few days later
- Colombo harbor, Rathmalana railway station instead Airbase and Angoda was highly effected from Japanese air attack
- They have been destroyed a Navy warship at Trincomalee during the second attack after 4 days
- Japanese intention was to attack the British DLI forces based in Rock House at Modara, north of Colombo harbor (it was one of the biggest arm warehouse and camp base)
- Also there had a school and St' Andrews church next to the Army camp
- Since 1940 till 1942 a Japanese trading organization been owned quite lots of shops in main street petta
- The owner and his family used to live at Modara in a big house at Dockland place near Ely house road where the Rock House army base next to this premises.
- The owner found as spy of Japanese government and captured later
- His son fleet away from Sri Lanka but other have been kept in a army camp at Diyatalawa
- Immediate action taken by British Government to hide the camp from the site
- They destroy the St' Andrews Church keeping all statues in Japanese owned house
- Japanese Air force may not be able to locate the area when they targeting the church
- Japanese fighters later arrived to bomb the place but misled the plan and drop their bombs at Colombo harbor
